Meeting the Moment: FLEX by Fenwick’s 2025 Client Demand

At FLEX by Fenwick, our lawyers focus on what clients need most — deep experience in technology transactions to support commercial flow; hands-on product counsel and privacy experience to advise businesses on the development of new products from inception to launch; in-house support on general corporate matters; and guidance navigating emerging legal issues, including AIML considerations. As we wrap up the third quarter of 2025, our client demand data provides a clear snapshot of where energy and resources are flowing among our client base.

Tech Transactions in the Lead

Unsurprisingly, commercial agreements continue to set the pace for our clients. Tech transactions have accounted for 31% of client demand this year, reflecting the ongoing wave of deal-making, partnerships, and licensing arrangements in an innovation-driven economy. From AI collaborations, government contracts, and SaaS agreements, the appetite for experienced transactional lawyers is strong.

Corporate Support Remains Core

Corporate work represents 11% of client demand, driven by fractional GC requests, private financing, M&A activity, and general governance needs. Growth companies especially are looking for agile legal help to keep momentum while managing risk.

Product & Life Sciences Activity Grows

Product-related legal needs — covering everything from product counseling to privacy navigation — make up 8% of our engagements. Meanwhile, life sciences stands at 6%, reflecting a steady pipeline of biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and MedTech work. These matters often sit at the intersection of science, business, and regulation, and our clients turn to FLEX attorneys for that breadth of expertise.

Compliance and Specialist Roles

As regulations evolve, compliance work accounts for 3% of demand, with clients focused on strengthening internal programs and meeting heightened oversight expectations. Litigation needs are at 2%, involving in-house litigation management and legal operations. IP stood close to 0% so far in 2025 — a reminder that many growth-stage clients rely heavily on outside counsel for patent and IP support.

Looking Ahead

These numbers confirm what we see daily: clients are committed to supporting outbound deals and adopting new technology even when legal teams face resignations, extended leaves, or competing priorities. Whether it’s navigating the complexities of a cross-border software license, managing corporate governance, or life sciences innovation, FLEX is ready to connect clients with an experienced lawyer.
